HawaiiAnxiety disorders are a mental health category of experiences that include panic attacks, phobias, generalized anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, agoraphobia, hypochondrias, acute stress disorder, and post traumatic stress disorder.  While each disorder has distinct symptoms, thoughts, feelings, and physical symptoms that are common include:

  • Feeling anxious
  • Feeling nervous
  • Feeling scared
  • Worrying about things
  • Feeling that you cannot stop worrying
  • Feeling tense, agitated or on edge
  • Feeling stressed
  • Feeling “uptight”
  • Having thoughts that something frightening will happen
  • Feeling alarmed or in danger
  • Feeling insecure
  • Feeling dizzy or light headed
  • Having rubbery or “jelly” legs
  • Feeling like you’re choking
  • Having a lump in your throat
  • Having shortness of breath
  • Skipping, racing or pounding heart
  • Having pain or tightness in the chest
  • Feeling restless or jumpy
  • Having tight, tense muscles
  • Trembling or shaking
  • Having butterflies or discomfort in your stomach
  • Sweating or hot flashes

The more symptoms you experience, the more likely that you are experiencing some form of anxiety disorder.
